Can dental implants be done in a day? It may come as a surprise to know that, YES, in many single teeth cases, it is possible to fit a dental implant in a day. In fact we do this procedure – known as an “immediate implant” – on a regular basis here at The Raglan Suite. It means that a patient can come into the practice, have the failing tooth removed and the implant placed together with an aesthetic temporary crown, all in the same appointment. There’s no need to wear an uncomfortable temporary denture or an unreliable temporary bridge. One visit. All done in the same day! The patient can leave the clinic with a fixed, functioning, natural-looking tooth, which is always the ideal solution, especially for front teeth.
After 3 months, when the gum has healed, the temporary crown will need to be replaced with a permanent crown, but the patient can have this done quickly and easily, even without the need for any anaesthetic.
What are the benefits of having dental implants done in a day?
As well as a much shorter overall treatment time at 3 months rather than 6, the “immediate implant” technique delivers a much more comfortable recovery. Patients report very little post-operative discomfort, swelling or bruising. However, the biggest benefit of all is that the final aesthetic outcome is the very best that dental surgeons can deliver. There is virtually no shrinking of the gum using this technique, which is very important to get the best aesthetic result.
Can anyone have this procedure?
The technique is ideal for any patient who has a crown on a front tooth that keeps coming off or where a tooth has snapped off at gum level or if the tooth is compromised. It is always advisable to book a free consultation first so that we can accurately assess whether the patient is suitable for an immediate placement.
Can you place more than one dental implant in one day?
In more extreme cases, where all the teeth need to be removed, it is also perfectly possible to remove all the offending teeth, place 4 implants and attach a temporary fixed set of teeth (a “fixed bridge”) all in one visit. Again, the temporary teeth are replaced by the permanent teeth after 3 months healing but at least there is no temporary denture involved.
Our team of implant surgeons at The Raglan Suite have a wealth of experience on placing dental implants and run courses for other dental surgeons in the UK to teach them their advanced techniques. If you would like any further information about this revolutionary dental technique, please do not hesitate to contact me at The Raglan Suite to arrange your complimentary consultation.
FILLING A GAP WITH A SINGLE TOOTH DENTAL IMPLANT18 September 2017 Categories: Dental implant

The most common case we do at The Raglan Suite is fill a gap with a single tooth dental implant. There are a number of reasons why a tooth may need to be removed, such as extensive decay or infection, trauma, a root fracture, a failed post crown or failed root filling. As dentists, we always try to save natural teeth. However, if it is clear that the tooth can not be saved, a single tooth dental implant offers a long term, stable and predictable solution.
